The Yellow Blesbok which we hunt on our South Africa Concession are the biggest in the World. You can expect a 15+ inch Yellow Blesbok on average when hunting with us, with some each year exceeding 17 inches.
The "Yellow Blesbok" is a color variation of the blesbok (Damaliscus pygargus phillipsi), which is a subspecies of the African antelope.
What do Yellow Blesbok look like:
The Yellow Blesbok has a yellow or golden-brown coat, which contrasts with the darker markings on its face, legs, and neck. Both males and females have long curved horns, while females are shorter and thinner.
Yellow Blesbok Habitat:
Yellow Blesboks preferred habitat is open grasslands or plains with plenty water. They spend the wet season in medium-tight grasses, and the dry season in the poor-quality grasses. Similar to the white blesbok, the yellow coloration is a result of a genetic variation in the blesbok population. These color variants are sometimes bred in captivity for game farms or private reserves in South Africa.
Yellow Blesbok Behavior:
Yellow Blesbok's social structure consists of territorial males, female herds, and bachelor groups. They are active during the day, but they do become less active during the hotter parts of the day.
Yellow Blesbok Reproduction:
The Yellow Blesbok's breeding season occurs from March to May, and gestation last around 8 months. Females will give birth to a single calf per breeding season.
