Africa Hunt Lodge allows the opportunity to hunt and harvest World Record Class Roan Antelope. The Limpopo Province of South Africa is one of the premier destinations in the World to hunt the Roan Antelope. There are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the Roan in South Africa, which makes it a suitable trophy year round.
Our hunters typically hunt the South African Roan in conjunction with a 7-10 day African Safari. One of our Experienced and Licensed Professional Hunters will be your guide during your Roan Hunt. We typically hunt Roan Safari Style, Spot and Stalk, or by Still Hunting if you are a Bow Hunter. We can accommodate all methods of Hunting for Roan including Rifle, Bow, Black Powder, Crossbow or Handgun. We can accommodate hunters of any age and experience level.
The Roan Antelope which we hunt on our South Africa Concession are Gold Medal Class and Above. On some of our concessions, you can expect to see up to a 30 inch Roan...on average 26-28 inches is common to be hunted.
The roan antelope (Hippotragus equinus) is a species of large antelope native to the savannas and woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa.
What do Roan look like:
Roan antelopes have reddish-brown coats and white marking on their face. Males and females have long and pointy ears, and males are larger snd more robust than females. Both sexes also have backward-curving horns. Roan antelopes are one of the largest antelope, with males weighing from 550 to 660 pounds and females being slightly smaller.
Roan Antelope Habitat:
Roan antelopes live in a variety of habitats, including open woodlands, grasslands, and savannas with scattered trees and shrubs. They like areas with plenty of grasses and browsing vegetation.
Roan Antelope Diet:
Roans are primarily grazers, feeding on a variety of grasses, herbs, and shrubs. They nutritious grass species and try to avoid tough and fibrous plants.
Roan Behaviors:
Roan antelopes are very social and live in herds of females and their offspring. They are led by a dominant male, who allow the herd to grow during the dry season in search of food and water. Roan antelope are territorial, and can have violent tempers. They fight by cashing their large horns together.
Roan Antelope Reproduction:
Breeding can occur year-round, but usually peaks during the rainy season when food is more present. Females roans will give birth to single calf after a gestation period of about 9 months. Calves are able to stand and walk shortly after birth, and are nursed by their mothers for several months.

Non-hunting guests are welcome to accompany the Hunters.
