Africa Hunt Lodge allows the opportunity to hunt and harvest World Record Class Tsessebe. The Limpopo Province of South Africa is one of the premier destinations in the World to hunt the Tsessebe given its close proximity to Botswana. Year round, we offer hunts for awesome Trophy Tsessebe as there are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the Tsessebe in South Africa. Tsessebe Hunts do require a TOPS permit, so in order to hunt a Tsessebe with us at Africa Hunt Lodge, we do need to know of your intent a month in advance in order necessary for paperwork to be in order.
Our hunters typically hunt the South African Tsessebe in conjunction with a 7-10 day African Safari. One of our Experienced and Licensed Professional Hunters will be your guide during your Tsessebe Hunt. We typically hunt Tsessebe Safari Style, Spot and Stalk, or by Still Hunting if you are a Bow Hunter. We can accommodate all methods of Hunting for Tsessebe including Rifle, Bow, Black Powder, Crossbow or Handgun. We can accommodate hunters of any age and experience level.
The Tsessebe which we hunt on our South Africa Concession are some of the biggest in the World. You can expect a 16+ inch Tsessebe on average when hunting with us, with some each year exceeding 17 inches.
The Tsessebe antelope, also known as the topi (Damaliscus lunatus), is a species of antelope found in various regions of sub-Saharan Africa.
What do Tsessebe look like:
Tsessebes have a reddish-brown coat and a dark brown/purplish sheen. They have large bodies, short legs, and horns that curve backwards. The horns occur in both sexes, while males are typically larger and thicker than females.
Tsessebe Habitat:
Tsessebes live in grasslands, savannas, and floodplains across Southern Africa. They are often found in areas will tall grasses and access to water, like marshes or rivers.
Tsessebe Diet:
Tsessebes are herbivorous antelopes that feed on grasses, and occasionally will browse on leaves and shrubs. They are selective eaters, and prefer young and tender grasses.
Behavior of Tsessebe:
Tsessebes are social animals that are found in herds ranging from a few tsessebes to a hundred. They are most active during the daytime, which they spend most of grazing on grasses.
Tsessebe Reproduction:
Breeding typically peaks in the rainy season when food is abundant. Females will give birth to a single calf after a gestation period of about eight months. The calves are precocial and can stand a run shortly after birth.
