Africa Hunt Lodge allows the opportunity to hunt and harvest the Largest Sable Antelope in the World. The Limpopo Province of South Africa is one of the premier destinations in the World to hunt the Common Sable Antelope. Year round, we offer hunts for awesome Trophy Sable as there are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the Sable in South Africa.

Our hunters typically hunt the South African Sable in conjunction with a 7-10 day African Safari. One of our Experienced and Licensed Professional Hunters will be your guide during your Sable Hunt. We typically hunt Sable Safari Style, Spot and Stalk, or by Still Hunting if you are a Bow Hunter. We can accommodate all methods of Hunting for Sable including Rifle, Bow, Crossbow or Handgun. We can accommodate hunters of any age and experience level.

The Sable which we hunt on our South Africa Concession are Gold Medal Class and Above. On some of our concessions, you can expect to see up to a 50 inch Sable...on average 38-43 inches is common to be hunted.

The Sable Antelope (Hippotragus niger) is a magnificent species of antelope native to the savannas and grasslands of southern and eastern Africa.

What do Sable look like?

Sable Antelope are known for their beautiful appearance. They have a glossy black-brown coat, as well as a white underbelly and facial markings. Males have long horns that can grow up to 60 inches, and females horns are slightly smaller. Sables have large bodies with males weighing from 440 to 595 pounds. Once again, females are slightly smaller.

Sable Antelope Habitat:

Sable inhabit a variety of habitats, including open woodlands, grasslands, and savannas with scattered trees and shrubs. They are commonly found in areas with plenty of grass cover and easy access to water sources.

Sable Antelope Diet:

Sable antelopes are primarily grazers, feeding on grasses, herbs, wild berries, pine nuts, and shrubs. They will also eat hares and other small mammals.

Sable Antelope Behavior:

Sable are generally solitary animals, but herds may form. Outside of breeding season, adult males will travel in bachelor herds. They are diurnal and most active during the early morning and late afternoon, resting in the heat of the day.

Sable Antelope Reproduction:

Sable antelope breeding is seasonal and births occur in the rainy season. Mating peaks in June, and after a gestation period of 9 months the female will give birth to a single calf.
